DE Diatomaceous Earth (for DE Filters)
Pickup currently not available
Achieve professional-grade water clarity with our 25 lb. Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) Filter Powder. This all-natural media is designed for use in all D.E. pool and spa filter systems, providing the highest level of filtration possible by removing particles as small as 2 to 5 microns.
D.E. powder works by coating your internal filter grids with a porous, sponge-like layer that traps microscopic contaminants, dirt, and even certain types of bacteria that sand and cartridge filters often miss.
D.E. Powder Dosage & Coverage
Proper measurement is critical. Adding too little can leave grids unprotected, while adding too much can cause "bridging" between grids, reducing efficiency.
| Filter Size (Sq. Ft.) | Full Charge (New/Cleaned Grids) | Recharge (After Backwashing) |
| 24 sq. ft. | 2.4 lbs (approx. 5 scoops) | 1.9 lbs (approx. 3 scoops) |
| 36 sq. ft. | 3.6 lbs (approx. 7 scoops) | 2.8 lbs (approx. 5 scoops) |
| 48 sq. ft. | 4.8 lbs (approx. 10 scoops) | 3.8 lbs (approx. 7 scoops) |
| 60 sq. ft. | 6.0 lbs (approx. 12 scoops) | 4.8 lbs (approx. 9 scoops) |
| 72 sq. ft. | 7.2 lbs (approx. 14 scoops) | 5.7 lbs (approx. 11 scoops) |
Note: 1 lb. of D.E. powder is roughly equivalent to a 1 lb. coffee can or two 1/2 lb. D.E. scoops.
How to Apply D.E. Powder
For the best results and to prevent clumping, follow these steps:
-
Backwash the Filter: Always start by backwashing the system to remove old, dirty powder.
-
Mix a Slurry: In a bucket, combine the required amount of D.E. powder with pool water to create a thin, creamy mixture.
-
Add via Skimmer: With the pump running, slowly pour the slurry into the skimmer closest to the filter.
-
Monitor Pressure: Check your filter's pressure gauge. It should rise to the normal operational range (typically 10-15 psi) once the grids are fully coated.
